Wish List / Control Curves
« on: December 05, 2014, 06:50:48 PM »
Hi Danny!

With heat and fan control curves, the node are created by elapsed time (i.e., Fan 4.5 at 4 minutes)  Is there a toggle to allow by a given temperature? (i.e. Fan 4.5 when temp hits 150C).  Sometimes I find when I do roasts that it can be 30 seconds to a full minue off the recipe fan/heat settings.  Just a thought!

First roast done!  I'm looking for feedback on improving from the first.

Equipment:
Quest M3
BlueTherm Duo with Erics thermocouples (BT and MET monitored)
Roastmaster with Datalogging option.

This was my very first roast ever and like most, had concerns.  I had a couple false starts with RM.  I guessed that I should warm up the roaster FIRST before starting RM.  Which lead me to a few observations.

1.  The profile called for a "15" at the start for warmup but the needle only hit between 10-15 on the AMP readout.
2.  The  MET got really high in relation to the BT.  It was above 260C during warm up.  Should that be a cause for concern?  Instructions say not to let an empty drum get above 250C.

I hurried the drop in at about 219C when it called for 226C.  Guess I got a little worried about the high temp.

As you can see from the graph, my curves were way off from the target curves.  the MET was really off.

I really didn't know when to end after the first crack started.  The popping sounds were just starting to come to an end.  I then cranked up the fan and turned down the heat.  Fired up the microwave vent too as there was a fair bit of smoke.

Beans cooled off in short order and I put them in a valved bag.  Anyway, looking for feedback on how to improve from here.

Support / Quest M3 and Bluetherm Duo

Hi there!   I will be a new roaster and I'm looking at the Quest M3 as the first.  My intention is to keep the footprint down as much as possible.  I plan on buying EricS's, Omega probes for BT and MET readings.  I am familiar with Eric's work as I have a thermometer for my Rocket Giotto.  Works great.

I've looked at the Phidgets option but there appears to be a lot extra items to purchase.  I am now looking at the Bluetherm Duo for the solution.

If I read correctly on the Bluetherm Duo, the chain would be:  Roaster --Probes--Bluetherm--wirelessly to iPad/Roastmaster.  Is this correct?

What are your thoughts on the Quest, Bluetherm Duo combination and do I have to get anything else to get it up and running?

Thanks and I look forward to getting up and running with Roastmaster.
