I use a Hottop (B).
It can store 3 profiles.
Typically when I roast, I'm basing it on a prior roast but then making changes (usually late in the roast).

So lets say I store a roast in the Hottop as profile 1.
The next time I roast that bean, I plan to use the same parameters for most of the roast, but make some changes at the end. I believe the way the Hottop works is that once you make a change, the roaster reverts to manual mode. What I'd like to do is copy the Heat & Fan settings from the previous roast (or a stored profile in roastmaster), manually enter the temps, and then, once I start making changes, get rid of the subsequent nodes for Heat & Fan.

Is there any way to do this (or to come close).
If not, anyone with a Hottop (or other similar situation) have suggestions?

Support / Copy curve, program, profile? Which to use.

I roast on a Hottop.
I've saved some profiles on the Hottop and would like to use them and copy the control curves into my new roast and then change them when I deviate from the profile.

I thought that I should save the original roast as a program (or profile?) and then copy it as an editable curve (via snapshot), but I can't figure out how to do that.

Also, I haven't really figured out the difference between programs and profiles.

Wish List / More flexibility in label printing
« on: June 14, 2014, 04:08:37 PM »
I use a Brother Q570 Label printer to label my roasts. Overall it works quite nicely with Roastmaster. I experimented and tweaked till I wound up with an xml template that prints a 1 1/3 in high label on my 2 3/7 inch wide label rolls.

The only limitations are:
1) the Font Size is smaller than I want, especially the date, which is hard to read.
2) It's a B&W printer. Using the default settings, some of the printing comes out too light (because it's not "black"). I mostly solve this by printing at darkest setting and highest contrast, but it would be good if I could set the label to print as pure B&W.

I'd love it if I could set some of these parameters in the xml template (or elsewhere).

Support / Printing to Brother QL-570 Label Printer

After some trial and error work, I came up with templates that work fairly well.

I then set the default on my label printer to Black&White (no grays), lowest brightness and highest contrast.
The result is very easy to produce labels for my roasts.

If anyone has the same printer, I can post the templates (I made them 1.3, 1.5 and 1.7 inches long (using the 2 3/7 inch wise continuous length labels). I found that I've only been using the 1.3 inch version.

I didn't know about that copy function. That's great!
Thanks.

Wish List / Duplicate roast?

I often roast a bean I've done before but tweaking it a bit from the last time.

That usually means that I use the same bean and charge, same roaster and profile (I actually always do that anyway, but that's beside the point). Then I use the roast I'm "duplicating" as the benchmark.

It would be great if there was a "duplicate" function to accomplish this (perhaps with some specifics that could be chosen from a menu in case someone wanted to do it a little differently than I describe above).

Also, it would be nice to be able to have a default roaster and profile so I didn't have to pick it every time. I assume many or most homeroasters actually only have one roaster anyway.

Support / 2C during cool down on Behmor?
« on: October 14, 2013, 11:54:56 AM »
How do I record 2C when it occurs during cool down (Roasting on a Behmor)?

2C pretty much always stretches into the cooldown phase.
When I hit cool down on the Behmor, I press the stop button on Roastmaster and can't record 2C anymore.
Am I doing something wrong?
Is there a more appropriate way to indicate end of roast?

PS: I'm using automatic Behmor curves but I always use P1 so it really doesn't matter (I have a switch on my heating element to control the roast).
