Wish List / Re: Hottop KN-8828B-2K+ USB support
« Last post by Danny Hall on December 16, 2019, 02:55:10 PM »
Hi Siobhan

Thanks for the kind words, and sorry for late response...I've been baking and programming prototype circuit boards pretty heavy over the last week.

I do hope to offer a USB solution of some type at some point. When building Roastmaster, of course, USB was not even a consideration, so I concentrated on building wireless solutions. But, USB is stuck in manufacturer's brains like glue, despite Bluetooth LE being a much better solution IMO. That was part of the the reason I began designing and building the custom hardware I mention for use with RM, along with the RBP protocol - to provide (in addition to temp sensing) a wireless "bridge" for USB devices.

Now...with the new iPad pros with USB C that may change. I will evaluate all of that once the hardware is in full beta testing. I have yet to look into exactly what is possible programmatically with Apple's implementation of the USB protocol. From the products coming to market, I assume is it fully open. Though, historically Apple has avoided that like the plague, so I remain skeptical. If it's open (and I hope that it is) it would be a straightforward proposition.

Either way...it's in future plans. Thanks for reaching out.

Danny

Wish List / Hottop KN-8828B-2K+ USB support

Hello Danny - we’re so glad you’re still around and as of the last wishlist comment I read, planning a new version.

Is there any chance you can add support for the newest Hottop roaster that has full USB control via Artisan as well as reading the two thermocouples? Even if Roastmaster cannot control but simply read the two thermocouples, we still want to continue using Roastmaster on the iPad vs having to learn and use software on a laptop. Thanks, we love Roastmaster!

Roasting / Re: Boca Boca small roaster 500gram

Hi

I would recommend the Thermal Blue with a K type thermocouple. The ThermaQ Blue communicate with Roastmaster over Bluetooth LE, and is very reliable and accurate. The size of the K type thermocouple you need would depend on the layout of your roaster. The tip should hit the bean mass as closely as possible.

Sorry, no...Roastmaster does not run on Windows.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Danny

Roasting / Boca Boca small roaster 500gram

Hi, my name is Tu from Thailand. Use this roasting program. Would like to ask a question
Small coffee roasting machine, 500 grams. Boca Boca would like to modify which temperature sensor and iPad connect properly?
Can you recommend some thermometers that I can modify, insert and connect to this program? Now I use the method to put the temperature in the program by hand.
And one more question This program can be used with Windows Notebook or not?
Thank you

That would be a game changer for me, as I like the functionality of the Bullet and like your software so much better than the RoastWatch they use. If you know of any other workaround to use your app with the Bullet I am all ears!

To note: the fact that you are so gracious at responding to these inquiries only makes us: the users, want to continue using your products well into the future. Its with this I will always put my money into your company going forward!

Hi

Thanks for the kind words. I thought the same about the Bullet, so I reached out to them last year...wanting to get that ball rolling. I've heard nothing back. That would be the first step. Afterwards, I'd need to determine if the USB C is actually a full-blown USB, or is (as per Apple's style) a watered-down USB - that only passes through certain subsets of protocols (camera, keyboard, etc.). I'm unsure at the moment - I've had my head so deep in electronics manufacturing and the next version of Roastmaster since the iPad pro hit, I haven't been able to export that path since last summer. If so, that would be very easy. If not, there would require a hardware box to receive the USB, and translate into Roastmaster's existing RBP protocol. I'm current entering manufacturing on Bluetooth hardware for thermocouples. After that is underway, I will think of designing a similar hardware device that could do the translations (for all types of roasters with USB) if Apple's USB implementation is NOT as open as I would like. After this hardware, I will be back to tie up a lot of loose strings...one of those will be trying again with the Bullet people to see if they are interested (or manning their web forms better) at that point. :)

Wish List / USB-C connectivity on iPad Pro (Bullet R1)

As the iPad Pro is gaining more and more traction, I would love this as my only device. As your robust software allows for so much to be stored in a single place. The Bullet R1 can connect to a MacBook Pro, but it would be great to see your software easily work with the Bullet R1 using a USB-C cable

Sorry - no. I was involved with the kickstarter campaign for the BT series, anticipating adding support, but they never sent the API to me. Last we spoke it was unfinished. I've since assume they decided to keep the API private, though I don't know that for sure.
