Sound Preference Bug

Nobody has officially registered this bug, but it may have been noticed. Version 1.1.0 does not correctly honor the preference setting concerning whether or not Roastmaster should play sounds.

iOS 4 was a major upgrade, and Apple seems to have made a lot of under-the-hood changes. One of the areas affected was the audio system. After I submitted version 1.1 to the App Store, while it was still in review, I found that while in Roastmaster on iOS4, if you received a text message or phone call, Roastmaster’s audio did not function for the remainder of the time it was launched. This, obviously, would be quite a problem for people who use the alarm function.

I pulled the update from review, and rewrote the entire sound engine from scratch. This was much easier than I expected, given the improvements Apple made behind the scenes to its audio architecture. I tested all aspects of it well, from receiving calls and texts, both during a session, and after being moved to the background – everything worked great. Everything, that is, except the one thing I forgot about – the preference setting. I had neglected to wire it to the new sound engine.

Sorry to any who might prefer to have the sounds turned off. I didn’t discover this until after the update was approved and live. This will be fixed in the next update.
