Excellent screencast, Danny! I’m really looking forward to more of these.

I recently downloaded the app, and just received my iCelsius BBQ Probe and I am now in the process of starting to learn some different profiles I would like to try.

Are there any “profile templates” that can be downloaded or shared by the roastmaster app/community? If not, this may be a cool new feature to add on, especially for a newbie like me. I understand the importance and the thrill to learning by try-and-error, but some guidance that the app could offer would be a feature much appreciated.

      Hi Kyle

I’ve been meaning to upload a profile for a few days – thanks for the impetus! I just uploaded a profile I used in the next screencast. I plan to upload that tomorrow, but you can still have a look at the profile, and get an idea of how profiles work in a roast. Maybe even try it out.

I have been manually entering temperature points into the database for almost a year now. After watching some of the videos here I am starting to wonder about Data Logging. What brands or setups connect up with this app? I am currently using a Gene Cafe Roaster. Thank you.

      Hi Travis

At the moment, Roastmaster can communicate with Phidgets Temperature Sensors, the Bluetherm Duo and the iCelsius BBQ. They are all stand-alone probe devices that need to be fitted into the roaster. In other words, Roastmaster won’t interface directly with the roaster itself, just the probe hardware.

Some pro models and even some home models have ports built it (like the Quest) and others are very easy to mod. The Genie Cafe, though, is problematic because of the off-axis drum design. I’ve never owned one of these, but from my research there are two sensors. I think the one used for the temp display is located is the exhaust port and gives an ambient drum temp reading. Incorporating data logging with the Genie Cafe, I guess would be a question of can you safely mod the machine itself.

If so, of the supported probe hardware, Phidgets and the Bluetherm Duo both support any K type probes – those would probably be the most flexible for tight spaces – you can use any size probe you need to fit the space.

      Hope this helps.
