It’s hard to say goodbye to old friends.
The BlueTherm Duo from ThermoWorks has been a staple in many Roastmaster workflows since the early days of data logging in the app. It is a workhorse that is still performing well for many to this day.
Sadly, and it pains me to say…Roastmaster for iOS 26 can no longer offer support for this unit.
If you use the BlueTherm Duo in your workflow, please understand that once you install Roastmaster 26, you will not be able to use it for data logging. To prevent iOS from automatically installing Roastmaster 26 when I push it live, you will need to disable automatic updates for apps on your iOS device. Navigate to Settings > Apps > App Store, and disable App Updates until you are ready to install it.
Why?
The BlueTherm Duo was discontinued a decade or so ago. Since that time, I have kept support in Roastmaster because this unit was still performing beautifully out in the field…and so was the ThermoWorks SDK (Software Development Kit) that Roastmaster used to access it.
Sadly, the SDK will no longer compile in the last two iOS versions. Since it’s part of Roastmaster’s code, if the SDK doesn’t compile, Roastmaster cannot compile either.
Since ThermoWorks no longer develops or supports the SDK, I had no choice but to remove support for this old friend.
Moving Forward
If you’re looking to replace the BlueTherm Duo, a great choice would be the ThermaQ Blue, from the same manufacturer. You can also consider Phidgets. Both are excellent choices and perform very well.
